owner.“ It was kind of very eclectic like this,” she said. With an upstairs of her own above her Main Street business, Jeanne Kay Designs, Gregston said she was inspired to bring something new to Main Street Duncan by creating a vintage lounge.
What was even better, Gregston said, was the opportunity to honor the family name and to create a special place where people can connect at Zeke’ s Second Story Lounge.
After coming up with a list of possible names, Gregston said the family kept coming back to naming the lounge after her grandfather, Zeke.
“ The second story lounge was part of different names here and there, but, I liked adding that part of it so that people know that it is on second story,” she said.“ My grandfather has passed away and so my husband’ s kind of like this is his second story. This is the second chance to have a little piece of Zeke with us.”
While the downstairs space is a place to find your school t-shirt and shop around, the upstairs provides a place for friends to gather and socialize.
With a tin ceiling and wood floors already in existence, Gregston said there was already a good start at creating something for the second story.
While the decorating was at the top of the list, Gregston said other to-do’ s for the project were checked off one by one.
Prior to the lounge area, Gregston said the second story was used for storage. She said the room got cleaned out, renovations started happening and she started collecting items here and there.
“ It just kind of came together,” she said.
Currently, Zeke’ s Second Story Lounge will run as an event venue which people can rent it out.
The lounge will allow the community to rent out the space for parties, women’ s groups, meetings and more.
With a number of vintage items in the space already, such as gold chairs, a typewriter and a cash register, Gregston said the idea to create a vintage space seemed to flow seamlessly.
While there’ s no specific time era for the space, Gregston said a lot of the items fall into the 1930s-40s vibe.
Gregston said renters can bring their own food and drinks inside the establishment.
“ There is a new law that if you are in an event venue and serving alcohol, you do have to hire a bartender,” she said.“ That is a requirement that if they’ re going to have any alcohol, then state law says that they have to have a licensed bartender.”
With an occupancy of 47, Gregston said the plans for the event center are to run like an Airbnb. Gregston said people are welcome to come and check out the space to make for sure that it fits their needs prior to signing a contract.
“ Our hope is to be able to give people just a code and they can come in and use the space and then clean up after they’ re done,” she said.
Gregston said she hopes people find the space as somewhere they can gather together and hang out.
“ It’ s a place to be able to get together with your friends,” she said.“ It’ s just a place where people can get together and enjoy each other’ s company.”
Gregston said she hopes to plan some activities with some murder mystery parties, game nights and more in the future.
Rental costs range from $ 25- $ 100 an hour for a minimum of two hours, for either weekdays, weekends, daytime or evening hours.
