Selling records and music memorabilia all began with the discovery of a Pink Floyd,“ Dark Side of the Moon” vinyl for Karen Sorensen.

“ I got it for a dollar. I looked it up and it was worth a hundred dollars
because it was in such good shape, I sold it instantly.” As a teenager in the 1980s, Sorensen had never listened to Pink Floyd or any hard metal rock music“ too much.” Her playlist ranged from Men at Work to Phil Collins and even disco. Now she listens to anything and loves it all.
“ I’ ve learned so much,” she said.
Sorensen’ s been spinning records as a business for nine years, with a few breaks in between the first store, Put the Needle on the Record, and her current store, The Flipside. A bonus is that when she moved to Nebraska, the store inventory went with her so she could continue the business
.“ It started in Duncan on Main Street in 2018 through 2020. And we did really well. Then we moved to Nebraska to be near our granddaughter.”
She re-opened the store there, and for three years, business was good.
A life event changed everything.
“ I decided to come back down to be near friends in Duncan.”
After searching for a location, she decided it was time to reopen her store.
“ I just switched up the name to The Flipside,” a reflection of starting over she said.“ My original customers are still coming in.”
She opened the current
store near the end of July.
Aug. 22 marks one month in her new location with the new name. She spent about six months looking and had her eye on a store in the mall. She wanted extra space and has added resale inventory ranging from books, and games to an entire area dedicated to quality children’ s clothes. Because she has such a large store, she is trying to maximize the inventory and offer variety. Music is still the main focus, ranging from the vinyls in bargain bins to top shelf, cassettes and even 8-tracks.
“ I have two sealed 8-tracks right now, and I’ ve got a bunch of 8-tracks in the back room I still need
