Your Carnival!
Your Carnival!
Welcome to Duffield Carnival 2016. Carnival is actually a whole week of entertainment put on by a host of very kind volunteers. Whether you’ re young or old please take a look at the enclosed pages and get involved.
The week starts with the Treasure Hunt on Father’ s day, and details of all following events can be found throughout this programme.
The theme for this year is“ Around the World” and we can’ t wait to see the varied floats and walking entries for the procession, plus the Shop Window Competition entries. Anyone can enter so why not get a group together like our friends on Holloway Rd.
The procession is on Saturday 25th June and meets at Avenue Road at 12.30, ready to start at 12.45. This is earlier than it used to be so please make a note to avoid disappointment.
People in fancy dress and procession marshalls will get onto Eyes Meadow for free, but please be aware that all other accompanying adults and secondary school children do require a ticket. These can be purchased in advance from Duffield News, Town Street Fish Bar, and Meadow Vale Store, saving £ 1 per ticket over the on-day price.
We are very pleased to welcome Bob Hogg and his Lamb National back to the Arena. Get ready for an unforgettable spectacle of sheep racing!( and maybe a flutter to two?) Also appearing are The Ambassadors Showband Derby, Gabhru Panjab De Bhangra Dancers and Vision Dance. Our village games will be staged once again with Tug-o-war and the famous egg catch!
Around the field there are plenty of activities for you to enjoy. For the brave why not scale the mobile high ropes for a birds-eye view of the Meadow( sensible footwear please). Challenge yourself to archery, or if you’ ve energy to burn try hockey, tennis or even golf. There’ s also an inflatable obstacle course, bouncy slide and fairground rides. For the more sedate among us there is the traditional Punch and Judy show, plus many stalls with a cornucopia of interests.
We aim to refresh you with teas and cakes by the Cumberhills W I, and a wide selection of ice cream by Bluebells Dairy. There will of course be the usual hog roast, BBQ and beer tent throughout the afternoon, joined by Biddulph’ s mobile pizza oven, snacks by Duffield Balti, and food by the Viceroy and Miss Piggy. Oh yes, there are also toilets on the field.
The evening brings a choice of live bands in the‘ DBS marquee’, with the opportunity to dance and party‘ til dark.
So what are you waiting for, come and join us on the 25th if not before e.
