It’s Your Carnival
For the sixth year running we have frozen our entry prices, boring isn’t it? But only possible
because of your support. Year on year we are delighted to see more of you come down to Eyes
Meadow; meaning that despite providing more entertainment etc; with your entry fees we have
the costs covered. Many thanks. And what happens to our profits? Answer, the Carnival is the
main means of generating funds for the Duffield Community Association whose remit is to invest
these back into the village.
So where does this Carnival pop-up from? Is it teleported from another planet, come as a flatpack, or like Jack’s magic seeds produce a beanstalk overnight? The latter is the closer; the
Carnival Crew over winter comes up with ideas, which combined with established favourites
forms the Carnival. As June looms and the work ramps up, the Crew look as though they could
be overwhelmed…but then our corps of supporters awaken and spring (or creak) into action.
And yay! We have a Carnival ☺, except that we need you, so please come along and have
some fun.
This year we have the complication of half the meadow being ploughed up so do bear with us as
we try a different layout. The Ladies will be delighted to be able to use the deluxe toilets of the
new Parish Changing rooms, and for the blokes… we’ll think of something.
The Carnival Week is a full week of entertainment, from the Sunday Treasure Hunt to the
following Sunday Churches Service. Staged through the efforts of so many Duffield Village
individuals, groups and supporters for the Community, it is something that all the aforesaid can
take pride in. Each year outsiders comment on what a special event it is; so well done all and
thank you.
