First Aid: Does it ever cross your mind where do the ambulances and First Aiders appear from for the Duffield Five, Sports Spectacular and Carnival Day? The answer is the...
Civil Aid Voluntary Ambulance Service
Civil Aid Voluntary Ambulance Service( CAVAS) is a none profit making organisation, manned by unpaid volunteers. They depend upon donations including the Carnival to fund their operations. CAVAS can trace its origins back to the Civil Defence Volunteers who served in the Second World War and post war years till 1968 when they were disbanded.
CAVAS are to be found at steam rallies, athletics, open days, cross country’ s; anywhere where their services are requested. Units are spread unevenly around the country, the largest one being based in Derby.
Trained First Aiders themselves with advanced qualifications such as in the use of medical gases, CAVAS teach different courses in first aid from the full first aid course to defibrillation and also paediatric courses.
If you would like to have a chat with them, feel free to approach them … unless giving treatment of course.
