Students with

DISABILITIES

Students with disabilities or those with an IEP ( Individual Education Plan ) who receive high school accommodations are also eligible to receive accommodations for dual credit classes :
Transcripted Credit
Start College Now / Youth Apprenticeship
Advanced Standing
Accommodations and / or modifications received in a typical high school course as outlined in the student ’ s IEP may differ from accommodations eligible in a transcripted dual credit course . Any accommodations offered in a transcripted credit course may require collaboration between NWTC Disability Services staff and the high school special education staff .
Students enrolled in Start College Now courses at NWTC and in Youth Apprenticeship are required to advocate for themselves for eligible accommodations . Contact the NWTC Disability Services department via email at disability . services @ nwtc . edu or call to make an appointment at 920-498-6904
Once notified of a need for accommodations , an NWTC disability case manager will work directly with your special education teacher or other school personnel if requested .
Students enrolled in Advanced Standing courses will receive the same accommodations as they receive for their high school courses . Contact the special education department at your high school .
Any student with a disability or IEP enrolled in a transcripted credit course should contact their high school ’ s special education department prior to the start of the course to ensure the appropriate accommodations are being provided .
Examples of possible accommodations that can be approved depending upon the student need and disability include :
• Extended test time ( 1.5 or 2.0 x the standard ).
• Taking the test in a reduced distraction area , utilizing speech software , or the use of a calculator .
• Test questions can be read , but not explained .
• Sign-language interpreter services can be provided . NWTC Disability Services can be contacted to help coordinate this service .
Examples of high school accommodations that are not approved in college courses :
• Instructors are not allowed to eliminate answers on a test or provide a word bank .
• Students are not allowed to use notes on tests unless this is something being provided to the entire class .
These are not all-inclusive lists , but rather examples of a few . 15
