DTLA LIFE MAG #8 | AUGUST 2014 | Page 41

With the major influx of residents flocking to DTLA to occupy condos, lofts and apartments, the de- mand for art has increased dramatically, expand- ing the urban art scene. This resurgence coupled with downtown’s pop- ular Art Walk that takes place the 2nd Thursday each month has motivated some artists to set up shop in DTLA. One of those artists is DTLA resident Cinzia Fer- da who opened her studio across from Grammy Museum and LA Live. And the style of her work encouraged her to make that move. “People were commenting how perfect my art- work is for downtown dwellers and commercial décor so I decided to make the move,” Cinzia said in a recent interview. “My artwork is more visible to a lot of DTLA residents and business owners than it could ever be in a gallery several miles away.” In the art world, modern minimalism and 60’s era psychedelic may seem miles apart, yet with the stroke of a brush Cinzia’s collections cross the di- vide...and it all happens right in the neighborhood she also calls home. “When I walk through the streets of DTLA sur- rounded by historic buildings fused with modern skyscrapers, it’s electric,” Cinzia added. “I’m in- spired by the ‘new’ meeting the grittiness.” Cinzia lives her life in that same style. While her personal two-bedroom digs are located in a mod- ern high-rise, her thriving studio space is in a his- toric structure. “Living and working in DTLA was an easy choice for me…there’s a renaissance go- ing on and I am thrilled to be a part of it,” she said. The broad range of collectors of her abstract art- works includes pro athletes from the NBA and NFL and rockers like Wally Palmar, lead singer of The Romantics, most recognized for his hit ‘What I Like About You’. Recently, while in Los Angeles recording with his new group, The Empty Hearts, Palmar and wife Kelly visited Cinzia’s studio and took home an original piece called Urban Zebra for their subur- ban home outside of Detroit. “Cinzia is incredibly talented and her art is diversi- fied,” said Palmar. “She had exactly what we were looking for.” Interior designer Lana Helda from the Avvici Group in Los Angeles/Newport Beach has first hand ex- perience collaborating with Cinzia.
