It’s such a thrill to share our monthly artists in ‘DTLA Life’. This
month, however, we would like to talk a little bit about the
GDCA Gallery, and how wonderful it’s been to be a part the
downtown Los Angeles community.
Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts (GDCA) is a full-service con-
temporary art gallery located on Spring Street, at the corner
of 6th St, in the heart of Gallery Row. For more than 30 years,
GDCA served as a private Hollywood art dealership, headed
by Gloria Delson. I first met Gloria in 2004 and we had an
instant connection - both artistically and personally. She took
me under her wing and showed me the ropes. I became her
business manager and talent scout.
Upon moving to DTLA in 2008 and experiencing the Down-
town ArtWalk first-hand, I knew that this vibrant community
was exactly what Gloria had been looking for. ”I haven’t felt
this kind of energy in the art-scene since New York’s early
SoHo days”, she exclaimed. Gloria decided that night, at the
tender age of 86, to open a gallery on Spring Street. “This is
it! This is where it’s happening”, she said. Clearly, Gloria had
caught the DTLA bug.
The very next month, in March of 2010, we debuted our public
downtown gallery space. Here, GDCA continues to cater to
private and corporate collectors with a diverse body of work
that includes painting, sculpture, and photography. Champi-
oning artists is a priority for us. It is a privilege to showcase our
established artists, as well as discover emerging talent. We
aim to be artist-advocates, as much as dealers.
The past four and a half years of featuring a new exhibit ev-
ery month has been an extremely rewarding journey - packed
houses every ArtWalk, consistent sales, and valuable relation-
ships with both our artists and our clients. Most recently, the
visibility of the gallery took a big step forward, when CBS Los
Angeles named GDCA one of the ‘Best Contemporary Art
Galleries in LA’ -

porary-art-galleries-in-los-angeles/
Additionally, Los Angeles Magazine profiled GDCA with a won-
derful photo from our May, 2014 exhibit, “KISS”, in their ‘Best
of LA: ArtWalks’ series. Needless to say, all of this recent at-
tention is a team-win for the DTLA art community. Synergy
amongst th e galleries and all of the businesses downtown is
yet another quality that makes this neighborhood so special.
When national publications like GQ call Downtown Los Ange-
les ‘America’s Next Great City’, we at the GDCA Gallery defi-
nitely agree.
