6TH

STREET BRIDGE

Built in 1932 , the original 6th Street Viaduct , a 3500 foot long bridge that connects the Arts District of Downtown L . A . to Boyle Heights has been severely weakened by an internal chemical condition calling for its demolition and reconstruction . The new replacement bridge has an estimated cost of $ 401 million dollars and the design renderings amplify the sweep and style of the original 81 year old bridge . Demolition and construction are slated for 2015 and will also feature pedestrian access , bicycle lanes and direct connections to the L . A . River .
