DTLA welcomes Bar Mattachine, a two-story lounge
situated near to 7th and Broadway catering to the
expanding downtown gay community. The downstairs lounge is designed for drinking, dancing and
live music and features a large Andrew Campbell
canvas. The smaller upstairs bar balcony offers firstrate people watching the action below. The bar’s
name is a salute to the Mattachine Society, which
was formed in the 1950s, as a supportive group
for those who boldly chose to live an openly gay
life. Here, it’s all about craft cocktails. Come by and
toast the arrival of a Harry Hay, the bar’s signature
cocktail honoring the founder of the Mattachine
Society. This careful blend of rye, bark of Angostura, maraschino liqueur and caramelized lemon oil
will demand your attention. Bar Mattachine will be
open daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. And in the spirit of
the Mattachine Society, all are welcome.
