DRUMRIGHT PUBLIC SCHOOLS
n May 27, 1913, citizens of Drumright
voted in favor of incorporating the town.
In 1912, two one-room schoolhouses
known as Dry Hill and Tiger provided children
with an education. They had an enrollment of 25
students, 13 at Dry Hill and 12 at Tiger. When the
news of the oil strike from Wheeler #1 got out, the
population soared! Within weeks of the March,
1912 strike, enrollment was over 300 students. At
that time, Aaron Drumright asked the Creek County established in October, 1914 when a two-story,
stone building opened as an elementary and high
school called Washington School. Wing Schools
were established to serve the students of the areas
outside of town and very few records exist today.
Dry Hill, Tiger, Tidal and Dunbar were known
wing schools. The Tidal School opened in 1930
to accommodate the children of the numerous oil
company workers, which is today the Tidewater
Winery.
Superintendent for help. Without the ability to pass
bond issues, the county turned to the oil companies
for help. Dry Hill, Tiger and the new students
consolidated into one school district, District 39.
A tent was put on Broadway, and school began.
By 1913, Drumright had 600 students; by 1914,
1,347 students; in 1915 was over 2,000 students;
and in 1918 enrollment peaked at 3,500 students.
Drumright Public Schools was officially Drumright Public Schools today is housed on
one campus. Bradley Elementary serves students
in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth. Cooper
Middle School and Drumright High School share
a building serving grades six through twelve. Our
students have many opportunities! Drumright is a
small school with BIG OFFERINGS! Academics are
offered in a traditional, blended, and online format.
Upper high school students may enroll concurrently
