To adhere Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern of syllabus, 84 different
Board of Studies have been constituted with the respective subject experts from the
academic year 2008-2009.

As a mark of respect during the Centenary celebrations of Perarignar Anna, a chair
has been established after his name known as “Anna Chair” in May 2009. This
crystallizes the greatest thought provoking ideas of Anna for the development of
children, youth and women in the country. It proposes to focus on the social issues
and upliftment of the poor.

Periyar Institute of Administrative studies (PERIYAS) constituted in 2009. Apart
from training students for Civil Service Examinations, the institute also conducts
various coaching classes for TNPSC and SSC Examinations.
(xvii) MoU is signed between Periyar University and different foreign countries like,
Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Italy etc. that encourages exchange programs.
(xviii) The various Departments of the University and the affiliated colleges are motivated
to organize International and National Conferences, Seminars, Symposia and
Workshops.

Medical Center, free IAS and IPS coaching centers, NET/SLET coaching centers
are started with the aid of UGC XI Plan period merged scheme and they function
effectively.

Solar Panels have been installed in the Periyar University campus and the whole
campus is now illuminated by solar lights. The cost of Electricity is considerably
reduced.

Periyar University has established a unique activity, “Village Adoption”. Through
this program, the students are brought under one roof to discuss, deliberate and carve
out time demanding solutions to social problems in the villages adopted.
(xxii) Center for Women Studies has been established with the assistance of UGC to the
tune of Rs. 25 lakhs.
(xxiii) Student Support Services like digital library Student’s Grievance cell and Women’s
Welfare Center are established.
(xxiv) Organised two Young Student Scientist Programme (YSSP) for the School students in
the years 2010, 2011 funded by TNSCST, to the tune of 4.5 lakhs.
