Driving Instructors Branch of Unite the Union February 2014 | Page 8

Our records show that ADIs presented the following number of candidates for test in 2013:

Number of testsNumber of ADIs

1-5 tests 5,765

6-10 tests 3,873

11-20 tests 7,304

21+ tests 22,432

Total number of ADIs: 39,374

I have already confirmed that, as Registrar, I will be sympathetic if a pupil lets the ADI down on the day of the test etc. The new standards check invite letter encourages the ADI to email DVSA to confirm their attendance. The use of email will also enable us to reschedule the standards check more quickly and at lower cost.

For the reasons set out above, I do not feel able to agree to your request that the role play option to be retained. However, I’m prepared to defer removal of this option from the regulations for 6 months (i.e. until October 2014). During this period, I’d like to please work with the national associations to raise further awareness of the ending of role play and the benefits in the ADI bringing a pupil to the standards check.

Compensation of ADIs for no-show Examiners

This is still being considered.

Has your National Association sought your views on grading, if not ask why not? ask them what they voted for and the reasons behind their stance.

Some National Associations seem to want grades; ask yourself why?

Maybe there will be no income from the sale of courses without the scare tactic of losing your present grade or from acheiving the top grade.

It shows how extensive the Registrar's powers are, if he can decide to extend the role play on Standards Check for a further 6 months without any consultation with anyone.
