remarks. It is noted that the response sent is slightly toned down from the original draft but still did not reflect the agreed feelings of the representatives in our opinion.
So where does this leave the National Association Steering Group, hardly an auspicious start. We don’t expect to agree on all topics but do expect everyone’s views to be taken into consideration.
Other matter discussed included:
•The guidance notes on the new standards check for examiners, concerns expressed, report to be prepared for Registrar (ADINJC to coordinate)
•B+E training, with regards to the 2006 Road Safety Act.(paper written & circulated to associations)
•Removal of Role Play on new Standards Check; request transitional period until DVSA have an online booking system for SC’s. (included in response)
•SC cancellation compensation, request that the registrar looks at this. Compensation is already in place for short notice cancellation of driving tests. Many instructors do not charge pupil during a CT/SC so instructor is out of pocket if the examiner fails to show.
•The Green Paper on road safety (we now know this is not going to happen any time soon).
•Still waiting for the Registrar to come back with his definition of ‘Fit and Proper’, (reminder to be sent). Northern Ireland definition has been circulated.
•Two representatives sort for meetings with the DVSA with regards to special needs practical tests. (Names to be submitted to DIDU)
•Proposed face to face meeting on 24th February 2014 with Unite the Union hosting. Venue- Esher Place, Surrey. Date clashes with other commitments for some, so a new date to be looked at.
