As this e-newsletter was being put togather we received further correspondence with regards to the Graduated Driving Licence Bill 2013.
The email received from Justin Tomlinson MP;
Thank you very much for taking the time to contact me, it is appreciated.
I am afraid though my Private Members Bill didn’t pass. Therefore all of my research and suggestions have now been fed into the Government’s consultation exercise ahead of them confirming what they will do in this area. I would strongly urge you to also send your thoughts through on this – it is clear you have a wealth of experience to comment on this very important topic.
Kind regards, Justin
Justin Tomlinson
North Swindon Conservative MP
So it woud appear that this attempt at pushing legislation through has failed. However the Green Paper to be published later this year is on the same topic, so we will have to wait to the publication and study the details.
Dib-Unite corresponded with Justin Tomlinson MP; we are aware that in the last week or so, the Chair of DIDU also wrote. DIA had expressed concerns over some of the content. DIA's Carly Brookfield is quoted as saying " I had met with the MP at his request and found many of his opinions and proposals misguided."
Barry Kenward the Chair of DIDU sent Justin his thesis that he wrote for his masters degree in driver education. We sent him the link to our newsletter April 2013;
We are sure he has not read all the information sent to him, but at least he had dealings and information from people with knowledge on the subject.
