Survivor Kitty Annelyse Garrison Grade 7
Every person has a story. Every animal has a story. This is an amazing story of survival of a wonderful cat who came special delivery to my family a few days ago.
My mother drove up to Colorado Springs, about ten days ago. During the trip, she stayed in Amarillo. While there, she noticed a cat that had no home, but was living on the grounds of the hotel where mom was staying. One of the ladies who was staying there was feeding the cat. She was allergic to cats, however, and could not take the poor little cat home. The cat was white with black patches, and a little black dot on his nose.
My mother went on ahead to Colorado. During the time that she was not at the hotel, a great snowstorm blew through Amarillo, covering the ground with over nineteen inches of snow, the second largest amount of snow the city had ever received. They also had seventymile-an-hour winds. When my mother came back through Amarillo, she was anxious to know if the cat had made it or not. Amazingly, he had! He was a little survivor.
After that my mother found out that the poor kitty had gotten himself into some trouble while she was gone. He had an infected eye! He was also covered in scratches. My mother decided to bring him home. My dad, however, was not happy, when he heard that she was bringing him home. We already had a dog, a rabbit, and four fish. My mother brought him home, however, in a crate the next day.
Before they left, my mother said that he made two sounds, when she put him in the crate. He made two meows with a question mark at the end of each. When my mother explained that she was going to take him home, he seemed to understand. He didn’ t make a single sound for the rest of the trip. For seven hours he was silent.
When they got home, we all ran out and started to unload the car. There was the cat. He was sound asleep. He woke at the sound of our voices, however, and seemed to be wanting out. I took him inside, and set him in the living room on the back of the couch. He seemed to love it there.
That night he slept on my feet. When my mother came to check on me, he would raise his head, look at her, and give her an acknowledging meow. After that he would lay his head back down and allow himself to be petted. Later, my mother said that his little purr motor was going all through the night.
On Friday the first of March, we took him to the vet to have his eye treated. When we got into the exam room, the doctor immediately said that it was a tomcat. Doctor Fromm said that he had been taking care of the feline ladies and protecting his territory. He was“ living the life”. That is why he had so many wounds and an infected eye, from all the cat fights he had been in. For those of you who have read the Warriors series, you will know what I am talking about. The doctor said that they would keep him over the weekend, and get him all fixed up. Doctor Fromm tucked Cloudstar under his arm and carried him away. I knew that the doctor would take good care of my baby. He is such a kind doctor. While there; the vet also neutered him, and tested him for cancer. We will pick him up on Monday.
