become different. I’ ve developed into my own artistic person. Although we may not view the world in exactly the same way anymore, she deserves the credit for every success in my life. Without her, I would not be me. I thank God every day for her, even if I do not thank her personally. I do not know what I would do without her. I miss our movie marathons and our shopping sprees. I miss spending two or three days at her house, just doing what we loved and doing it together.
In a year, I plan on heading off to her alma mater, the University of North Texas, to pursue a career in interior design. Without her, I don’ t think I would have chosen that career. For years I have watched her design and build houses for herself and for others. She has always had a beautiful home and it’ s all because of her great creative eye. She was the one who introduced me to the world of interior design. She put me on this path to success.
Everyone in my family looks to my grandmother for all of their sewing needs. If a shirt needs a new button, or a Boy Scout uniform needs a new patch, she is the one they turn to. She is a wizard with a sewing machine. Someday I hope to be like her. The day that the Bernina sewing machine was passed down to me, I became the next wizard-in-training for our family. I like to think that by giving me the machine, she approved of my talent. I felt like she was telling me I was ready. I was ready to make it on my own. When the time comes and she passes the torch down to me, I hope that I can be half the artist that she is.
