he idea of this project was born within a wish to cre-
ate the conditions for everyone who visited Belgrade
even briefly to connect and interact with the city on
their own unique way. As you know we all have some
places in every town that remind us on a specific
state of mind and soul. Those fillings that one has as
an association to a place became a main base for
CrnoBeo.grad project. Our group spent some time
developing the idea of fingerprints that could sym-
bolize that interconnection with the specific point on
the map. First we wanted to make portraits of the
citizens, asking them one question about Belgrade,
later we thought of making a postcard with combin-
ing their portrait and the answer. We had many
ideas but in the end we agreed on the one you see.
Why fingerprint? Because it’s one and only mark of
the individual that cannot be replaced or copied
which underlines the sense of intimacy we wanted to
gain by this project. While we discussed the way of
collecting the fingerprints we came to a conclusion
that the deepest and, at the same time, simplest
connection to the city are emotions of happiness
and sadness. When you feel sad you usually try to
forget those places, but they anyway remain inside
your mind and make a map of ‘ticking bombs’.
