The visual connection of movement made through
the tape, reveals how the architecture in which they
move through forces people to move in certain
ways and therefore reveals a more communal expe-
rience of a space. In this way, the tape connects in-
dividuals in public space and therefore works against
the individualism that enables privitisation of city
spaces.
During the week we came to notice that little atten-
tion is given to the marks we left in public space. Peo-
ple rarely stop to look at the marks. Things that are
out of place do not always get people’s attention.
The crossing of paths, memories and actions made it
know that wherever you stand or walk, someone has
been standing there before and made there own
individual memory that may or may not link to the
one you have made it that exact spot. In this way,
invisible interactions take place, a shared experi-
ence.
Everyday life can be repetitive; observing masses of
people highlights this. This is why we chose to make
time-lapse videos of the marked places. They show,
how many people stand in the same places, even in
the very short period of less than an hour. The tape
marks we put on the ground cross over and draw
connections through time and space. Interactions
arise which have not been there before, through the
tape marks people join the shared experience of
having been in the same place. Whoever came to
the spot, did for individual own reasons but the ac-
tion of being there connects that person with millions
of other people who did the same.
