onsidering the sexual revolution articu-
lated in the 1960’s we picked the term
malegaze as the focus of our project.
The term itself appeared in the 1970’s
in the sphere of film, but it defines our entire soci-
ety. One can encounter many examples of women
being portrayed as sexual objects on a daily basis.
The objectification is present not only in media, but
everyday life. Regarding both genders (according
to the traditional binary categorization of gender)
the approach to the world is deeply affected by the
heterosexual masculine logic.

Throughout history the male elements of the society
have decided over both abstract and concrete
structures. Politics, society and actual spaces are
mostly the manifestations of male visions. It is com-
monly known that in art history women appear only
as models. Besides the very few examples of female
artists, women are passive objects of passion. The
sexual revolution of the ‘60s has strongly contributed
to opening the possibility for women actively shap-
ing the art world as creators.
