Demarcate
our project was inspired by two randomly selected keywords : crime and engines . with these two words in mind we began to think about public space ( s ) as engines or motivators for crime , meaning that certain spaces offer specific opportunity ( or not ) for crimes to be committed due to a multitude of factors be they social , psychological , architectural , or relational . thus , we decided to investigate the “ safest ” locations in Budapest within the 1st , 2nd , 5th , and 6th districts and create a visual intervention referencing criminal activity at these designated places . what we mean by “ safest ” was determined by the Hungarian police force ’ s official interactive map of reported crimes committed in public spaces over the past 365 days [ http :// www . police . hu / hu / bunugyiterkep ]. the visual intervention was comprised of demarcating a small section within the larger “ safe ” locations with rendőrség / police tape and photographing the responses of passersby .
