The deconstruction of language and the idea of noise as sound is something that has been previously explored . Futurists such as Luigi Russolo in his manifesto ‘ L ’ arte dei Rumori ’ ( The Art of Noises ) redefined the classical notion of music by considering industrial noises as the musical backdrop of human existence . In their poems , the futurists abolished syntax and rather used repetition and onomatopoeia as their main rhetorical device to demonstrate the velocity of the modern city . Dadaism is another extreme example of this breaking down of language structures : in the Cabaret Voltaire , the poems are made up of nonsensical words and sounds to highlight the absurdity and arbitrariness of language and its connotative systems of communication .
