Our group collaboration started in a bit chaotic way , I think it was also because we were realising the short time period of 3 days we had to finish it . We have chosen the words CRIMES & ENGINES , so firstly we started to think , how we could use these two words in connection to the “ public space ”. I personally , started to think about public space as some “ engine ” for committing crimes at real bodies or people living and moving in these space . By public space I meant “ universal public space ” which is everywhere ( home , internet , streets , town ), so there is no any distinction in between private & public or subjective & objective space . Laura came up also with the idea to use this online “ map of crimes ” and to choose places where any crime happened and do something there . So we started to visiting some places and squares outside in a city because we wasn ’ t sure what to do and we to tried to find out our project . I got the idea , to use some colour tape for marking up some areas in public space and to commit some visual violence which can be noticed by public passing by . Michael wanted to mark or tape some benches with certain words and messages . We have noticed many homeless people
sleeping on benches and having their clothes and personal stuff hidden in bushes during our trip . So then we somehow connected the ideas and decided to go and tape certain areas which we have chosen at the map and which were places where didn ’ t happened any crime .
For me personally the project was very interesting , it was more like research and I was curious to see how people would react , when passing by our taped areas in public space . I was surprised at Szabadság tér where we taped an area next to German Occupation monument during the day light and nobody noticed anything . People were passing by and they were not paying attention at all . I also made some drawings there , because I wanted to make evidence of our intervention , which would be different than taking photographic evidence .
The second place which was for me personally interesting was at Rómer flóris utca ( 1023 ) 2nd district , where me , Laura and Michael got by tram . There we wanted to tape the bench which was immediately at a bus stop , but after an old woman came and sit next to me so we couldn ’ t tape the bench . She started to talk at me in very basic English because she noticed we have spoken in English . She was very kind and she started to ask me what we are doing and studying . After I said that we are students from the fine art academy she told me that her grandfather did the sculpture at szabadság tér and that she also comes from an artistic family ,
