What is this garment?
A light blue slim fitting pencil dress from Topshop. It is a size 10, and was manufactured in china.
Why was the dress returned?
The customer bought her dress knowing that there was a fault in it. However, she believed she could sort the fault out herself. She took the garment home to realise there was no way of her sorting it out herself resulting it to her returning it. Topshop had no other option but to give the refund as Topshop had no proof that she put it there.
What was the main reason?
The main reason to the return of the dress was due to a makeup stain to which she couldn’t get out, she felt that it was too visible to wear.
What other problems were found when analyzing the garment?
They have used an invisible zip; if you create a dress with an invisible zip you do not need a hook and eye, as the zip is strong enough to keep shut.
Lastly when accessing this dress, I came across incorrect stitching on the dress. On the middle of the dress there is an open gap to which has purposely been placed to show some skin. However, the stitching around the dress is not in line, one side of the material comes down a lot lower than the other.
There are ways in which the dress can be improved and these are:
1. Adding sleeves. Why? By adding sleeves it will make the dress warmer meaning that it can be worn in colder seasons, also the dress is quite plain so by adding sleeves it will make it more pleasing to the eye.
2. Removing the gap between the breasts. Why? By the look of this dress I presume it has been made for formal events such as Christenings, Weddings, Ascot etc. Therefore by removing the gap it will make the dress look much more classy and elegant. This will also broaden the age range as the cut out attracts the younger however by adding some lace or material it will attract the older people too.
3. Dropping the waistline. Why? By dropping the waistline pockets could be added and tabs for a belt giving the dress more character and use.
