Why did i choose the Eras 1960s, 1970s and 1980s?
I chose the following three Eras as I believe they were the ones I could relate to the most. Adding to this a lot of the 60s, 70s and 80s fashion are now back in fashion and are extremely popular as shown on my Get the Look Pages. I partnered up with Chloe as we have very similar interests in clothing, this mean that it was easy for us to agree on the Era’s that we chose. Not only this, I found these Eras had lots of events that had occurred which made the Era more appealing to me compared to others.
Why did I choose 1960?
1960s was the Era to which bright neon colours had evolved. The bright neon colours allowed people to express their bold and fun personalities.
The sixties still provide designers today with an endless source of inspiration. From Hermès ‘Birkin’ bag, to Dior’s noughties take on Edie Sedgwick’s Factory Girl style, these women were some of the greatest fashion influencers of all time.
Many fashion traditions were broken, mirroring the important social and political changes of the decade. It was the era where no skirt was too short, and no beehive too high, people could finally wear what they wanted without being judged upon.
Why did I choose 1970s?
I chose 1970s as I found it very intriguing. It was the first year to where women could be themselves and be free without the gender role being dragged into the equation. The 1970s had many different styles from glamour to hippy to punk. Music had a huge influence on fashion during the 1970s, rock highly influenced the punk look and jazz and soul highly influenced the more glamorous look. The different types of music would differentiate the way people would dress and today this still occurs. This is what makes the Era so exciting.
Why did i chose the 1980s?
I chose the 1980s as I found it the most relatable to me. I own many clothes to which were influenced by the 80s look. Adding to this, Madonna was a huge style icon to young girls, they aspired to be like her due to her good fashion sense and her striking personality in her music. The 1980s was one of the most experimental periods in fashion history. Style icons varying from Princess Diana to Madonna, Joan Collins to Boy George. These style icons had extremely bold personalities to which people inspired to be like. Due to this era being the most experimental and having no limits it made it become very interesting.
