Get The Look 1970s
What was the 1970s Fashion like?
Womens Fashion
In the beginning of the decade, women’s styles were very colorful and showy. Extreme, bright colors were in high demand and long flowing skirt and pants were everywhere during the wintertime.
Suits dominated women’s fashion in the late 1970s. Leisure suits, pant suits, jump suits and track suits (also known as warm-up suits) were worn from coast to coast. Although dresses, blouses, skirts and other popular garments were still worn, however they weren’t as important to defining the style of the times.
Mens Fashion
Men’s clothing began to get tighter and tighter. A huge selection of the clothes from this era was made of polyester or a blend of cotton and polyester. Later in the decade, velour and terry cloth became a very popular choice of fabric for men’s shirts.
The other suit was the tracksuit. Although the tracksuit is more often associated with the 80s (as worn by the Beastie Boys), they were quite popular in the late 70s.
Vivviene Westwood
Vivienne Westwood is a well-known British fashion designer who played a big role in punk rock’s influence on fashion in both America and Great Britain during the 1970s and beyond.
