LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
I wanted something more than a
newsletter to enrich the program.
"Why not a magazine, " I was
thinking. The goal was a magazine that will allow teens to showcase their gifts and talents, which will contribute to the growth of our Ray of Light Central youth program. So here we are; DREAM TEEN--a strategic team, a collaboration of talented contributors and team members.
While building this sensational
team, I discovered that everyone
was just as excited to be a part of the magazine as I was. I spoke with Reverend Tina Baker, parent of our featured article, who is the epitome of a well-rounded parent. Juggling different responsibilities, still she gives each child what they need. I told her how she was doing a great job with her children--each doing great things and working academically toward their future.
"My children tell me what they want to be and achieve and I take them to their future," she said.
And she does that by getting them to shadow someone in their desired career goal, or promoting their gifts by various creative mediums. I love your idea Rev. Baker--how apropos for this magazine.
"Take them to their future." DREAM TEEN magazine will take our teens to their dream. This issue is special. Our first contributors join us:
Krystal Smith, makeup and skin care consultant, presents unique ideas for the summer; Lauren Chambliss Hernandez is great at what she does--introducing ways to tap into grants and scholarships. Dr. Michele Lamantia was my MD while living in San Diego, CA. She has great references and medical reviews. Dr. Lamantia will contribute to the Health and Wellness column.
Alexandra Antoine has worked with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for three consecutive years, she is our Fashion Coordinator. Brooke Ariel Baker, a student of Freeport High, is our young advocate and journalist for the column, "It's Personal." Beverly Robinson will contribute to our Poet's Corner--her poems are inpirational.
This is the first of many, and I am glad to be sharing it with you. Enjoy, from the cover page to the back.
