IMPORT RACING STARS SHOW OFF ON NATIONAL STAGE

In the weeks leading up to the World Doorslammer Nationals , it was announced that a pair of eight-car import shootouts would join the lineup . Organized by Gabriel Garcia of GRS Motorsports and track owner Ozzy Moya , the exhibition shootouts featured the Pro Compact and Old School classes competing for over $ 10,000 in prize money .

In the Pro Compact class , where Pro Mod-style imports with 4-cylinder and 2-rotor engines are capable of runs well into the low 6-second range , Raul “ Cuajo ” Reyes wheeled his Maijailin Racing Mazda RX8 to a 6.744-second , 199.02 mph win . He defeated Harold Gomez in the final round when Gomez left the starting line too soon in “ El Elegido is Back ” but still legged it out to a 6.787 at 202.91 .
The Old School category likely converted more than a few new import fans , as the short wheelbase , high horsepower race cars made a series of wheels-up , sideways passes to put the Orlando fans on their feet .
Jomar Gomez , driver of the “ El Patron ” Mazda RX7 , came out on top in the stunning Old School final round , with his 6.618 at 209.75 edging out Juan Mivra , who cut a perfect reaction time and ran a 6.693 at 208.36 in the Gallito Racing ’ 73 Toyota Corolla . DI
