AS THE PDRA EMBARKS ON ITS EIGHTH SEASON OF EIGHTH-MILE DRAG RACING , THE SERIES IS BUZZING WITH ENERGY . AFTER HAVING TO CUT TWO RACES AND SHUFFLE AROUND DATES AND LOCATIONS TO WORK AROUND THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN 2020 , THE ORGANIZATION IS READY TO GET BACK TO A FULL SCHEDULE OF EIGHT EVENTS AT TRACKS RANGING FROM LONGTIME SERIES STANDBYS TO FIRST-TIME STOPS ¶ THE SEASON WILL KICK OFF AT THE EAST COAST NATIONALS PRESENTED BY FUELTECH , APRIL 8-10 AT GALOT MOTORSPORTS PARK IN BENSON , NORTH CAROLINA . FORMERLY DUNN-BENSON DRAGSTRIP , GALOT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE PDRA ’ S MARQUEE TRACKS SINCE JOINING THE TOUR IN 2016 . IT ’ S THE HOME OF PENSKE / PRS PRO BOOST
presented by WS Construction world champions Kevin Rivenbark and John Strickland .
The PDRA then heads to one of three first-time tracks , Beech Bend Raceway Park near Bowling Green , Kentucky , for the inaugural Doorslammer Derby presented by Classic Graphix , April 29-May 1 . Beech Bend is a historic facility with an on-site amusement park , and it ’ s just minutes away from the National Corvette Museum .
“ As for Bowling Green , I hope we pack that place ,” says Johnny Pluchino , the defending world champion
in Liberty ’ s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition . “ It ’ s a new venue and market . I have never been there . I think there ’ s potential to grow our brand some .”
Another new stop , Summit Motorsports Park , will host the DeCerbo Construction All-American Doorslammer Challenge presented by Callies Performance , May 27-29 . The Norwalk , Ohio , racetrack has a rich history in doorslammer racing , making it a familiar place for numerous PDRA racers like Pluchino .
“ Norwalk is a top-notch facility I have raced at a few times and I ’ m pumped
to get back over there ,” Pluchino says . “ I ’ d love to have a Norwalk trophy on my shelf . It also allows some competitors you don ’ t see as much in the Southeast a chance to come out and test the waters .”
The PDRA will converge on two series favorites once summer rolls around , beginning with the North- South Shootout presented by Line-X , June 24-26 at Maryland International Raceway . The Summer Shootout presented by Ty-Drive , July 15-17 at Virginia Motorsports Park will start the second half of the season .
Following the Summer Shootout , a
select group of PDRA racers will return to VMP for the Summit Racing Equipment ProStars shootout during the track ’ s Night of Fire event on July 31 . The top 8 racers in ProStars points will qualify to compete in the event , which requires no entry fee and will pay out over $ 55,000 in prize money , with a winner-take-all format in all classes .
The third new track for the series is Reading , Pennsylvania ’ s Maple Grove Raceway , which will host the P2 Contracting Northern Nationals presented by P2 Racing on August 12-14 . Like Bowling Green and Norwalk , Maple Grove was set to join the PDRA tour in
