Shelby Thurman marched all the way to victory in Jr . Dragster action , sliding past Caleb Morton on a double breakout final round .
During Sunday ’ s finale , “ Slick Rick ” Baehr had an amazing day , and not just in Super Pro , where the Smyrna , Tennessee , racer got past Bryson Scruggs in the final round . Amazingly , Baehr also clinched the victory in the same car , a beautiful black Camaro , after entering it in the Foot Brake class as well . Tyler McMillian went red in the finals , handing the win to Baehr , who scored the double victory on Sunday .
A brand-new set of weekend finalists squared off in Jr . Dragster , with Callie White taking on Tripp Hamilton . White was better at the start and held off Hamilton the entire distance to take home the trophy and check .
In addition to the Mississippi Madness event , Holly Springs also hosted another one of Axford ’ s Flatbill Promotions events earlier in the year called Memorial Day Mayhem .
Holly Springs is IHRA sanctioned and offers a regular bracket points program , along with many other events , such as the much-anticipated Fall Brawl Drag Radial event . “ The track is typically open Saturday and Sunday each week with bracket and grudge racing , but sometimes we ’ ll have a big event and be open all weekend long ,” explains Terry “ Jabbo ” Forsythe , the track owner .
Northern Mississippi seldom gets snow , so it usually provides a lengthy racing season . “ We usually wrap things up with the ‘ Leftover Nationals ’, which takes place the weekend after Thanksgiving . I encourage our racers to bring their leftover turkey and go racing . That ’ s how the event got its name ,” laughs Forsythe .
After a short break for Christmas and New Year ’ s , Holly Springs comes back to life with testn-tune beginning in late February , with racing resuming the first week of March . DI
