30 UNDER 30 / 2019 COLE CUMMINGS ■ THE CUMMINGS MOTORSPORTS name is recognized near and far in the brack- et racing world, and their Moser Engineer- ing-backed stable of race cars has been a force to be reckoned with across more than one sanc- tioning body. For 25-year-old Cole Cummings, racing is a generational passion, and one in which he’s heavily invested, both behind the wheel and as an up-and-coming promoter. “We were always traveling and racing when I was growing up,” says Cummings, whose father is Britt, uncle is Slate, and grandfather is Larry. “I raced Jr. Dragster for two years, but with all of our other cars [up to seven at a time], we didn’t have time to devote to making them better. So, we decided to wait until we were ready to race a big car.” After college, the Hammonds, Louisiana, na- tive returned to racing, helping the team for an entire year and earning his keep by cleaning and maintaining the cars. He soon learned the ropes from inside the car in Super Comp, then on to Super Street, followed by Super Gas. In 2019, Cole stepped into a new corner of the racing world when he partnered with his father, Slate, to put together the Hot August Nights big-money bracket race at Pine Valley Dragway in east Texas. “I loved it,” he says. “I’m getting more involved throughout the sport and broadening my hori- zons, and instead of just being Britt’s son or Slate’s nephew, now I’m starting to develop in the sport. “I’ve had some success racing, but being brought up in the sport with my family and representing our sponsors, I’m learning how to be professional and always try to help people,” Cummings contin- ues. “We want to be the best we can be in every way. Racing is one thing, but you also have to try to be a good person, too.” – K E L LY WA DI D E DI DI DI DI DI DI DI DI DI 104 | D r a g I l l u s t r a t e d | DragIllustrated.com Issue 151
