compressor. The Radial world’s quickest
nitrous racer, Jamie Hancock’s Alabama-based
969-cubic inch ’69 Firebird which is current
ranked tenth at 3.687 seconds, still owns the
eighth spot on DI’s Top 8 ETs in Pro Nitrous
competition.
It’s impossible to overstate the importance
of Moya’s SGMP facility in the overall statistics.
At the conclusion of the event, a total of
thirty-one drivers had clocked under 3.80 sec-
onds in RvW history. Only four of those pilots
achieved the feat at a track other than SGMP
and, in fact, all four did the deed at Bradenton
(FL) Motorsports Park’s U.S. Street Nationals
in January. Moya’s Georgia facility produced
seven of the eight fastest RvW drivers, as well.
Lights Out X also boasted the sec-
ond-quickest 275X Eliminator elapsed time
ever with a brutal 4.32-second blast by
Floridian Patrick Clenney. The new owner of
Dean Marinis’ amazing nitrous oxide-injected
582-inch Chevy-powered 2000 Mustang,
Clenney had the car refurbished and clocked
the quickest ever for an unblown X275 entry
with the heaviest combination in the class,
3,400 pounds, on 10.82 inch-wide radial rear
tires. Also, Texan Eric Moore’s turbo’d 1993
Mustang became the second machine over 170
mph in X275 trim.
FORCE BLASTS TO “NEW PREP”

A mere ten months after the NHRA and the
Professional Racers Organization, (PRO),
mutually agreed to slow the rising speeds of
nitro-burning machines by changing the ad-
hesion of each NHRA National Event site with
radically different track preparation techniques,

John Force wheeled his Peak Coolant and
Motor Oil 2019 Camaro blown fuel Funny Car
to a record for the “New Prep” tracks at 334.74
mph for the thousand-feet distance during the
2019 NHRA Lucas Oil Winternationals. At the
same event, Mike Salinas recorded the fastest
speed in Top Fuel Eliminator at 334.40 mph.
While it’s important to remember Auto
Club Raceway at Pomona (CA) slopes eighteen
feet downhill, (far more than the maximum
allowed ten percent grade at any other
NHRA facility), it appears the “New Prep” has
achieved the exact result sought by both
groups through the change: a maximum speed
of no more than 335 mph.
Performance is not a thing of the past,
however. The same event produced a “New
Prep” record-tying 0.815 sixty-feet ET by
reigning Top Fuel World Champion Steve
Torrence and the quickest pass ever recorded
for a machine NOT burning nitromethane, a
mind-numbing 5.15 quarter-mile by British
Columbian Top Alcohol Dragster standout
Shawn Cowie.
