Tim Wilkerson and the Levi, Ray & Shoup Nitro Funny Car were having
a stellar weekend at the NHRA Kansas Nationals – qualifying No. 3 with
a career-best 3.869-second, 333.74mph pass – before disaster struck in
the semifinal round of Funny Car eliminations. Immediately following
Wilkerson hitting the throttle, his Ford Mustang took a sharp left turn
and crashed into the left guard wall; sparking a small fire by the fuel cell.
