Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
� Ventilation system fans should be HVI-rated to deliver at least 1.0 cfm / W( maximum 1.0 W / cfm) at no less than 0.25 inches water gauge.
� Ventilation system controls, including the on / off switch, must be clearly labeled as controlling the whole-house ventilation system( for example,“ This switch controls the ventilation fan that provides outdoor air for the purpose of improving indoor air quality. This fan / switch should remain on, unless the building will be unoccupied for long periods( weeks) of time”).
� A Homeowner Manual must include the following information about ventilation system purpose, operation, and maintenance:

– The purpose of the ventilation system, and the importance of operating it – The location of the fan( s), controls, exhaust and / or supply grilles, ducts, and( except for exhaust only systems) location of the supply air intake and filter – Manufacturer’ s instructions for fan installation, operation, and maintenance, include filter replacement( if any) – Guidance on speed settings and adjustments, for multiple- or variable-speed fans
H6.3. Outdoor Air Ducted to Bedrooms and Living Areas( 2 Points)
Outdoor air must be filtered( through a MERV 6 filter at a minimum) and ducted and supplied directly to all bedrooms and major living areas. Main living areas include room where people spend the most time, such as a living room, great room, family room, and / or home office( but not kitchen, laundry rooms, garage, basement, bathrooms, etc.). This can be accomplished by installing either a supply system or balanced( exhaust and supply) system whose supply is separately ducted to those rooms.
VERIFICATION Measure H6.1
Field Verification: The Rater will complete field compliance verification of the system type( exhaust, supply, or balanced) and minimum delivered cfm, and that the whole-house ventilation fan controls are appropriately labeled.
Documentation: The Rater must complete the following:
� An Accountability Form with measure criteria signed by a mechanical engineer, HVAC installer, or other appropriate professional stating compliance with ASHRAE Standard 62.2.
� Calculations showing compliance with ASHRAE Standard 62.2 and results of a HERS test of mechanical ventilation rates.
Measure H6.2 Field Verification: The Rater must complete field compliance verification of the following:
� The fan is sized to deliver at least 0.35 AC / h during continuous operation. � An accessible MERV 6 + filter is on supply or balanced ventilation systems. � No excessive noise is in the living space due to remote-mounted fans. � The HVI-rated fan efficacy is at least 1 cfm / W at 0.25 inches water gauge. � The whole-house ventilation fan control is appropriately labeled.
Documentation: A mechanical engineer, HVAC installer, or other appropriate professional must provide documentation of the efficiency of continuous operation, sone level, efficiency, and ventilation rate of the system.
