MINIMAL TURF IN LANDSCAPE
CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION Up to three points are available as follows:

C4.1. No Turf on Slopes Exceeding 10 % and No Overhead Sprinklers Installed in Areas Less Than Eight Feet Wide( 1 Point)
Landscaping with no turf will be granted full credit for this measure. This measure is a prerequisite for measure C4.2. C4.2. Turf on a Small Percentage of Landscaped Area( Up to 2 Points) Credit is available for devoting less than a percentage of the landscaped area to turf, as follows:

The percentage of the landscape area is based on the landscape area that the builder is completing. Landscaping with no turf will be granted full credit for this measure.
VERIFICATION
Field Verification: The Rater will conduct field compliance verification and take representative photos of turf areas and landscape areas.
Documentation: The Rater may need to complete a plan review to confirm the percentage of turf area within the landscape area, if the percentage is not easily verifiable in the field.
INTENT To reduce water, fertilizer, and pesticide use. To reduce or eliminate over-watering onto hardscape areas.
TREES TO MODERATE BUILDING TEMPERATURE
CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION

Three points of credit may be awarded if 50 % or more of the west facing glazing and walls will be shaded( at 4 p. m. in September) by the trees at their mature size. This can be accomplished by existing trees or newly planted deciduous trees. Trees must be deciduous to be included in the measure; deciduous trees maximize cooling in the summer and solar gain in the winter.
Shading calculations for this measure shall be shown on a shade study exhibit, including the location and species of trees, north arrow, mature canopy size, total square feet of west-facing building walls and windows, and total area shaded. Trees do not have to be on the property to be included in the calculation.
