PASSIVE SOLAR DESIGN
CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION Up to three points of credit are available as follows:
Two points can be awarded for implementing at least four of the following strategies to reduce the home’ s heating load.
• Higher % of glazing on north side and higher value for SHGC on north side
• R-44 in attic
• Orientation of windows and varying SHGC for different orientations
• Tighter envelope
• Wall insulation – above R-15 cavity and R-4 exterior
• Window selection for performance
Two points can be awarded for implementing at least four of the following strategies to reduce the home’ s cooling load.
• Lower SHGC value and lower u-factor on west and south sides
• Shading devices on windows that have excessive heat gain
• Cool Roof
• Double roof
• Radiant barrier
• R-44 in attic
• Orientation of windows and varying SHGC for different orientations
• Tighter envelope
• Stack ventilation( skylight / window / monitoring)
VERIFICATION Field Verification: Rater will conduct field compliance verification and take photos of all strategies. Documentation: Rater will collect appropriate documentation for measures.
