K1. ENTRYWAYS DESIGNED TO REDUCE TRACKED-IN CONTAMINANTS

CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION Up to two points of credit may be given as follows: K1.1. Individual Entryways (1 Point)

Design and build a deliberate and obvious hard surface area at the home’s main entrance. This area must offer room for occupants and visitors to comfortably take off their shoes and include a specifically designed and permanently installed assembly (such as shelves, drawers, cubicles, etc.) for shoe storage that is overtly obvious to visitors. A permanently installed bench or shelf with shoe storage on the porch meets this measure. Coat closets do not qualify for this measure. A bench and permanent walk-off mat or grille are recommended, but not required, For the purposes of this measure, carpet in entryways is prohibited. K1.2. Building Entryways (1 Point)

Note: This measure applies to multifamily projects only. Install a deliberate and obvious hard surface area at every main entrance to the building(s). A built-in, permanent walk-off mat or grill (for a minimum of six feet of continuous travel) should be provided at the entrance to the building(s).
