ADVANCED PRACTICES FOR COOLING
CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION Up to three points of credit are available for the following advanced cooling practices: H8.1. ENERGY STAR Ceiling Fans in Living Areas and All Bedrooms (1 Point)
Install ENERGY STAR ceiling fans and light kits in areas where occupants spent the majority of their time. This includes living rooms, family rooms, or recreation rooms, but not kitchens, laundry rooms, garages, basements, bathrooms, etc. ENERGY STAR fans with built-in lights or add-on light kits must have ENERGY STAR-qualified efficient light fixtures. ENERGY STAR fans without lights also qualify for this measure. H8.2. Whole House Fan (1 Point)
This measure applies to low rise projects only. Install a whole house fan (preferably with multiple or variable speeds). An insulated, airtight sealed cover is necessary to prevent air and heat leakage through the fan. The fan should be sized to produce between four to six air changes per hour and should not be oversized (see ASHRAE 62.2 for specifications). H8.3. Operable Windows and Skylights Placed to Induce Cross Ventilation in At Least One Room in 80% of Units (1 Point) Note: This measure applies to multifamily projects only.
