Fully drain/flush the tank. Complete a reasonable selection of the items marked “Upgrade” in the CDHW Inspection Survey to improve the efficiency and performance of the system. Install demand controls that are able to shut off the re-circulation pump when there is no hot water demand, and allow the CDHW system to come back on when there is demand for hot water and the temperature of the water in the circulation loop has dropped too much to be useful. This is mutually exclusive with the content of the next bullet. Install temperature modulation controls with one of the following monitoring methods: – – Continuous electronic monitoring of the hot water supply (HWS) temperature and hot water return (HWR) temperature that is evaluated by software to detect out-of-bounds conditions Quarterly monitoring of burner run time using pulse loggers and recording equipment capable of storing all the runtime data between monitoring downloads
Additionally, the owner must enter into a two-year monitoring and/or maintenance agreement with the installer that stipulates data will be logged and recorded by the installer and provided to the owner at least once per year. This is mutually exclusive with the content of the previous bullet. VERIFICATION Measure G6.1 Documentation: The licensed contractor (C-4 or C-36) will submit the signed CDHW Checklist or equivalent document and Operator’s Manual, including all required components listed in the measure. The maintenance manager should have a copy of the manual. Documentation collected as part of the commissioning measure may also serve toward supplying relevant documentation for this measure. A template for the Operator’s Manual is included as an appendix in the SoCalGas manual; See the Additional Resources section for more information. Measure G6.2 Field Verification: The Rater will conduct field compliance verification. When appropriate, the licensed contractor or other appropriate party will provide documentation verifying the completion of work for corrected conditions and/or the monitoring and maintenance contract. Documentation: The Rater will collect documentation of field verification of CDHW controls completed by the contractor in accordance with the SoCalGas’ MF CDHW Control Manual, but other methods may be used if properly documented. INTENT To reduce the energy used and water wasted by optimizing the operating conditions of the CDHW systems.
