PLUMBING SYSTEM INTEGRITY AND NO PLUMBING LEAKS
CRITERIA FOR QUALIFICATION This measure is required for all projects. Verify that there are no plumbing leaks in the home’s main supply line, the home’s internal water lines, toilets, and the irrigation system. If there are any leaks, they must be repaired. Additionally, check the plumbing integrity, including the strapping of the water heater and the back siphoning mechanism for hose bibs. The Rater may use the GreenPoint Rated Field Checklist for verification. Although not required, consider devices to prevent freezing in appropriate climate zones. Test for plumbing leaks with the following practices: ? Test and verify the home’s water supply system for leaks. Make sure all faucets and other devices are off and will be unused during this test. Note the placement of the meter indicator. Make sure the water main at the house is turned on; do not turn off the water main at the street. Wait a minimum of 30 minutes, and note if there is any change in the meter indicator. If there is no change, then there are no significant leaks; if there is a change, notify the homeowner and help create a plan to investigate and repair the leak. If there is movement in the water meter (indicating a possible leak), test all toilets using the appropriate toilet dye test for leaks. Verify that the irrigation system does not leak. If possible, have the homeowner run the irrigation system to check for missing heads or other system leaks.
