Building a Bridge

From Jeffrey Eugene to Myiah Davis
When first learning that the infamous Jeffrey Eugene was assigned to be my mentor, I was enthused, overjoyed, and excited! I first met Jeffrey my Freshmen year as a laid back, down-to- earth student leader from Georgia who was an easy to talk to kind guy. From then on I kept hearing all these inspiring stories about what this man Jeffrey Eugene has done on campus while maintaining a remarkable GPA, in a sense I have aspired to be like Jeffrey Eugene. The legacy Jeffrey has left on Hampton University’ s campus has been unmatched and is unparalleled to the point that if anybody says,“ Yea you know Jeffery,” they respond“ Jeffrey Eugene?” I went in with the knowledge that Jeffrey was a very smart, talented man, who knew what he was doing and that there was a great deal of information, ideas, and tips that could be learned from him.
The ten standout ideas I learned from Jeffrey include: 1) Never be afraid to go against the grain. 2) Take in the advice of others 3) Stay true to yourself 4) Don’ t take any afforded opportunities for granted 5) Keeping an open line of communication is vital 6) Have a plan of action 7) Make sure you are happy with yourself, where you are, and where you want to be 8) Be prepared to answer questions about yourself 9) Understand that everybody has a schedule 10) Being patient and determined are important characteristics to have.
