Know Myiah Personally

With a mother named Angela Davis, you can only imagine the strong unyielding impact this caring, resilient woman could have on her young daughter. Though my mother obtained her infamous name through marriage, she represents a strong, powerful black woman, such as the iconic woman who has made that name famous.
My mother endured a harsh time of illness while raising my brother and me for duration, lasting the majority of the time I have been alive, 18 long years of pain, unanswered questions, and doctor’ s reassuring her that there was no problem. In times of extreme pain, harsh criticism, professional disbelief, abrupt career changes, and the young impressionable minds of children that needed to be nurtured and guided, my mother persevered, remained a dependable person who never gave up.
Watching my mother deal with such unbearable pain, resulting in the removal of a 10 pound mass that had been growing behind her intestine for 18 years, instilled in me the drive to stay strong, dedicated, and kind in every aspect of my life. It was hard to see this beautiful, spiritual woman, struggle with pain for so long, that I have developed a yearning to want to take people out of pain, if but for a moment, so they may be able to enjoy their lives to the fullest with the people they love around them.
A career in medicine will help me to achieve this longing desire to take physically hurting people out of pain, to better their lives and potentially our communities. Like my mother, I stay strong when people depend on me, I am dedicated to my work, my education, my love for chemistry, and have kind heart that will do anything to help the people in my community.
