Homeschool Adventures Wednesdays, October 1, December 3 1:00–4:00pm • $3 per child for non-members, $2 for members Local homeschool students are welcome for hands-on social studies activities. These are designed to make our regular school programs available to homeschoolers. Programs last three hours. Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead Saturday, October 25 11:00am–4:00pm • $3 per child for non-members, $2 for members The annual Día de los Muertos sugar skull painting at the History Center. Programs for Adults Kinder House Tours Tuesdays–Fridays, 10am–5pm Sundays, 1–4pm • Free! Tours start at 781 Pearson Come step back into the early 20th century! The History Center’s 1907 house museum is again open for tours. The main floor includes the parlor, sitting room, kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. Coffee Talk: Larry McClellan, “Road Tripping” Sunday, August 24 3:00–4:00pm • $3 donation suggested. Come learn about how some of the major roads of Illinois got their names. Book Discussion: Ken Jennings, “Maphead” Wednesday, September 17 6:00–7:00pm • Free. Join us for an informal discussion of a popular title by renowned Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings. Copies of the book are available from the Des Plaines Public Library. Coffee Talk: Ron Solberg, “Those Magnificent ‘Whizbang’ Traveling Salesmen of Illinois” Thursday, October 9 1:30–2:30pm • $3 donation suggested. The days of the traveling salesmen are all but over. Coffee Talk: Dennis Depcik, “Wouldn’t It Be Something” Thursday, November 13 7:00–8:00pm • $3 donation suggested. Historic Adventures: “A Brush with History” Saturday, September 27 8am–5:30pm • $20 for members, $25 for non-members Meet at the History Center at 8am and carpool to Ottawa, Illinois, to view the historic murals.
