Afternoon Adventures

1:00–4:00pm • “Open house” style • $3 per child for non-members, $2 for members
We are extending our traditional summertime program to once per month through the school
year. Bring the young people in your family for an engaging learning experience interesting for
both children and adults.
Homeschool Adventures
Wednesdays, October 1, December 3
1:00–4:00pm • $3 per child for non-members, $2 for members
Local homeschool students are welcome for hands-on social studies activities. These are
designed to make our regular school programs available to homeschoolers. Programs last
three hours.
Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead
Saturday, October 25

The History Center’s 1907 house museum is again
open for tours. The main floor includes the parlor,
sitting room, kitchen, dining room, and bathroom.

Join us for an informal discussion of a popular title by renowned Jeopardy! champion
Ken Jennings. Copies of the book are available from the Des Plaines Public Library.

Coffee Talk: Dennis Depcik, “Wouldn’t It Be Something”
Thursday, November 13

Depcik, a local veteran of the Cold War, will reveal the story of his military career, falling in love
with his wife Maggie, and the effort put into compiling their letters into a personal history

Meet at the History Center at noon and carpool to the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Collectors Evening: “Traveling”
Thursday, September 11
7:00–8:00pm • Donation suggested at door.
Come see some items about travel from the museum’s collection. Bring your family’s travel
diaries, postcards, or souvenirs to show the group.
Historic Adventures: “A Brush with History”
Saturday, September 27
8am–5:30pm • $20 for members, $25 for non-members
Meet at the History Center at 8am and carpool to Ottawa, Illinois, to view the historic murals.
