Editor’s Letter
Dear Ladies,
and missed opportunities can be restored.
This is the sole purpose of “Restoring Tamar.”
If you have had a Tamar experience, it is my
hope and prayer that as you read the column
with Tamar’s story that you are not only
inspired to rise from desolation but that you
are healed to advance. Don’t stop where life
happened to you.
Welcome to April.
This month we were
scheduled to host DOZ
Live Restoring Tamar,
but unfortunately,
that event has now
been cancelled due
to COVID-19 and
most nations going
into lockdown.
However, before the
cancellation, I had
been doing some writing about Tamar, her
story and the lessons I learnt, and I thought
I should share them with you in this issue.
An entire column has been dedicated to
Tamar, but for those who do not know her,
Tamar is a character in the Bible. She was
the beautiful virgin daughter of King David,
who was raped by her brother who should
have protected her from rape and in her
own home where she should have been safe
from rape. As Tamar walked away from that
experience, she tore her dress and put ash
on her head and mourned the loss of her
innocence, which was forcefully taken from
her by one she loved and trusted. Many
women have had a Tamar experience, and
very often, it has been swept under the
carpet because no one likes to talk about
such awkward and embarrassing events. The
victim is left alone to face her predicament
and deal with her crisis. As you can imagine,
without the tools to become better after
such a life-changing experience, the victim
becomes bitter. But it is time to heal Tamar
so she can be reinstated, and her lost dreams
This is DOZ Issue 54, April 2020. Our DOZ
That Inspire You is, Dr Ava Eagle Brown. She
is an incredible woman who has attained
greatness despite the odds. Ava grew up
in impoverished rural Jamaica, but she
was determined not to become what she
saw around her. She wanted more and
realised that education was her access to
more. The odds were against her, but she
attained her goals. She has risen above the
circumstances she was born into, and she
continues to rise. Be inspired to soar as you
read her story.
Our DOZ Show Preferred Guest is Dianah
Kamande. You will absolutely love her story.
She shares with us and indeed relives the
horror of the night she almost lost her life.
Her husband attacked her with a sword
determined to kill her, their children and
himself. Dianah did not only survive that
encounter but went on to turn her pain to
gain. As you read her interview, be inspired
to rise from the ashes.
See you in May. Stay safe.
Blessings!
