From the Family Table KATHY’S PUMPKIN BREAD Marilyn Smith O ur Family Would Look Forward to This Gift Every Year! Kathy Pearce Watson was an extraordinary person. She was a social worker in our home town, but best of all, she was a dear friend and the wife of a dear friend. Her husband and mine were buddies in the house painting business and all-around crazy guys, especially when they were together. My husband would tease Kathy about being a social worker and accuse her of “psychoanalyzing” him. Her husband would agree, I’m sure, that my DOZ Magazine | December 2019 husband could use the help! You just never knew what they were going to do or say next! Each year Kathy and her husband, along with their daughter, Shannon, would bake these wonderful gifts of pumpkin bread near the holidays and take them to many people in the area. It was so good; it seemed to be more of a cake than a bread. The bread would be baked in a round pumpkin can, and so when cut, it was a round slice. Sadly, we lost Kathy to ovarian cancer. Before 6
