Editor’s
Letter
Dear Ladies,
Welcome to October!
As we approach the end
of the year, the issue of
dreams and aspirations has
been on my mind. And I
watched for a second time
the movie JOY, which tells
the story of the American
inventor and multimillionaire
businesswoman, Joy
Mangano. You will notice that
I have written an article titled
Leadership Lessons from
the Life of Joy Mangano and
this is based on information
from the movie and her life.
One of the things that struck
me while watching the film
is that we all have dreams as
children and then as we grow
older, we settle. We bury our
dreams, and we begin to make
a living as opposed to living.
Occasionally, we remember
our dreams but then we
rationalize that dreams don’t
pay the bills and we stifle
them only to get to the end
of our lives filled with regret
as the realization hits us that
this was not a dress rehearsal
after all but the real deal and
the only chance we would get
to fulfil our dreams. And we
have blown it, and it is too
late. If you are not already at
the end of your life, then you
still have a chance to fulfil
your dreams. So, let me ask
you a few pertinent questions.
What ideas did you have as a
child? What happened along
the way to make you forfeit
them? Who told you that they
were beyond your reach? Why
did you settle? If you could
meet with your younger self,
would she thank you for what
has become of her dreams?
This is DOZ Issue 48, October
2019, and the stories and
interviews are inspiring as
always. October is domestic
violence awareness month,
and so we have included
an exclusive interview with
Irene Jones, who was once a
victim of domestic violence.
Irene shares her story to
create awareness and help
women in a similar situation.
We hope you find her story
3
encouraging.
Our DOZ That Inspire You, for
this issue is, Bonita Parker.
She is a beautiful woman with
a fascinating story. Bonita
recently recovered from
stage four cancer and is now
even more aware of the fact
that we don’t have all the
time in the world to fulfil our
dreams. So, for those of us
who continually procrastinate
implementing our ideas,
hopefully, Bonita’s story
inspires us to wake up and
pursue our dreams. Like it or
not, the reality is, you don’t
have time to dilly dally and
procrastinate. Tick tock the
clock is ticking. Get moving.
Our DOZ Show Preferred
Guest is Lady Anika Stewart.
I absolutely love this woman
and her story. When she came
face to face with death, Anika
chose to live and turned her
life around to reflect that
choice. What choices have you
made? Read Anika’s story and
be inspired to choose life and
all that comes with it.
“DOZ Chronicles: Ruki”
concludes in this issue.
Finally! We hope you have
enjoyed reading it thus far.
We have a new story for you
in the next issue.
See you next month.
Blessings!
