Eleanor Roosevelt
E
Eturuvie Erebor
leanor Roosevelt was the wife of
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and
he was the 32nd president of the
United States of America. She was a
former first lady of the United States
of America. She is known to have
changed the traditional role of the first
lady. Unlike other first ladies before her, she did not
limit herself to strictly ceremonial duties rather she
immersed herself in the great issues of the day. As the
first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt learned about the plight
of the poor not by reading or hearing about it, but
by going out to meet those who were struggling and
seeing for herself their struggles. She was a woman
who wanted to understand the problems of others
first hand. Eleanor Roosevelt’s motto was, go out and
see for yourself, and it was a motto she lived by. Her
husband, Franklin Roosevelt, was unable to travel as
much as he should have done as he did not wish to
be seen or photographed in a wheelchair. As a result,
he relied heavily on Eleanor to go out to the suffering
masses and bring him a situation report. This was a
task Eleanor carried out excellently. Eleanor’s work
to alleviate the suffering of others did not stop in
America but was extended to many other nations.
