Editor’s Letter
Dear Readers,
Yesterday, I learnt a very valuable lesson which I would like to share here. I sent a message to a woman on
Whatsapp. She and I belong to a church group on the social media platform, and a few months ago, she
began sending me daily inspirational messages. I didn’t hear from her for a few weeks but thought nothing
of it. However, when I sent her a message yesterday, she began to quiz me much to my displeasure. “Who is
this?” She wanted to know. And so, I told her my name. And she asked, “how do I know you?” All the time, I
was thinking sarcastically, these are probably the questions I should have asked you months ago when you
started sending me daily messages. Very calmly, I explained how we connected, and she instantly realised
who I was and became apologetic. She went on to inform me that she had lost her phone. That wasn’t all;
her husband had also died. According to her, he had been ill and in the
hospital for a month before his demise. I wasn’t expecting to hear that,
and I was taken aback by the information. I didn’t know what to say. Then
I read her next sentence, “my head is scattered. I am confused.” My heart
went out to her. What does one say to a woman in her circumstances?
Is there a book for “dummies” on coping with the sudden loss of one’s
spouse? It’s a difficult place to be no doubt, and only God can comfort
the bereaved and give hope for the future. Now, before I lose my trend
of thoughts, I stated at the beginning of this letter, that I learnt a very
valuable lesson. Here it is; always give the other person the benefit of
the doubt. Never assume anything, rather ask questions to know and
understand. Finally, things are not always as they appear to be. Before
you get cross with anyone, hear them out. May I ask you to join me in
praying for this daughter of Zion as she goes home this last weekend in
September to lay her husband to rest?
This is DOZ Issue 24, October 2017. Our DOZman Inspiration for this
issue is Lulu Anthony. He is a gospel artist, an encourager to the body of
Christ and a husband of a very beautiful woman and father to two lovely
Eturuvie Erebor
children. He is a ‘comeback kid’ who has bounced back from adversity
and is pursuing purpose in a way that will give you hope no matter your circumstances.
Our DOZ That Inspire You, is, Aiwan Obinyan. She is a movie director and producer. And she is a woman
that I greatly admire. I met her three years ago when I attended the premiere of her first move, “Bethlehem
Boy.” She put the movie together on a zero budget. How she did it? She shares some of her story with us.
And she also talks about her new movie project. It is a documentary movie, titled, “WAX PRINT: From the
Cradle to the Grave.” She is a woman walking in her purpose and exploring ways to break through barriers
rather than make excuses or talk endlessly about what she would like to do. She takes action. She means
business.
We have included an excerpt from the novel, “DOZ Chronicles: Lara.” Lara is a feisty young evangelist who
has a hard time forgiving those who have wronged her. We will publish her story over the next four issues,
after which, we will bring you another intriguing story from our DOZ Chronicles series of novels.
It is a loaded issue. Be inspired by the stories, articles, and interviews. I look forward to seeing you same
time next month.
