An area rich in tradition , there are many National Registered Historic Districts with a concentration of historic buildings , structures , sites , or objects of distinction that are significant in American history , architecture , archaeology , engineering , and culture .

While visiting in DownEast Acadia , feel free to stop into a local library . They are the perfect place to stop in for information , enjoy free wi-fi , or to pick out a little summer reading . Many of the buildings are beautifully crafted architectural gems .
Another source of inspiration and contemplation can be found in the many fine arts galleries throughout the region . Often you will have the pleasure of being welcomed by the artists themselves .

Outdoor Performances
With typical Maine ingenuity many local theaters , music venues , and cinemas have taken their shows to the outdoors . Most downtowns regularly offer outdoor concerts and movies during the summer season , and you ’ re certain to find other special outdoor performances happening across DownEast Acadia . Each Summer , the Bar Harbor Music Festival offers admission-free outdoor concerts in Acadia National Park , while many Schoodic Arts for All performances now call Gouldsboro Town Park home .
