The unique red-and-white stripes of West Quoddy Head Light ( easternmost in the US ) stand brightly against the sky to meet the dawn ’ s gaze . The Lighthouse has a visitor ’ s center , and seasonal tours of the tower on Saturdays . Driving back toward the town of Lubec , you can spy the Sparkplug , also known as the Lubec Channel Light .
LIGHTHOUSES
Bring along your passport to visit Campobello Island where you ’ ll find two more beauties in Head Harbor Light ( also known as East Quoddy Head ) and Mulholland Light . Make a day of it with a whale watch cruise and visit Roosevelt Campobello International Park . Bring a passport and check ahead for any travel restrictions for visiting Canada .
In Calais stands Whitlocks Mill Light , our nation ’ s northernmost lighthouse , in a broad S-curve in the St . Croix River . It ’ s visible by land from the south ; however , the best view is from the river . In Cutler , the delightfully restored Little River Light now welcomes overnight guests looking to get away from it all .
Set out on the Baker Island Light excursion from Bar Harbor and explore this fascinating 130-acre island . On your way back , enjoy a lingering view of Egg Rock Light at the mouth of Frenchman Bay . Get the kids involved along the Deer Isle Lighthouse Tour . Pick up a US Lighthouse Society Passport then collect a stamp at one or all eight of the lighthouses included .
Outdoor adventurers can spot some lighthouses via kayak . For safety , it is recommended one use a Registered Maine Guide . Tides and weather can often be unpredictable , and water temperatures rarely exceed 50 °, even in summer .
